Had a great session today, ending my first week of training.   Am in Philly so Joe and I made the trek together to DiBrunos, on Chestnut St,  getting in my four miles.    I've been doing my weekday work on a treadmill but I like to be outside for the longer weekend workouts,  which will escalate in distance quickly.   The first two months of training are relatively easy for me---the final two months are punishing.   Whatever I do is minor compared to hospital visits, treatments, chemo, bone marrow transplants, etc.       My worst day is a wonderful day for somebody undergoing cancer treatment.
What is Team in Training, you ask?   Obviously it a  fund-raising vehicle for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.   Most don't know it is the largest endurance sport-training organization in the world.  I did the Governor's Cup Marathon in Helena, MT with TNT six years ago.  Joe did a Century (100 mi) Bike Ride with TNT the same year.   TNT gives tremendous support to its participants.   There are coaches,  group training session, mentors, and of course all the easy-to-do fundraising tools for the web.    Our daughter in law did a marathon in Hawaii a few years ago---so some nice venues too.     TNT was started in 1988 by Bruce Cleland who gathered a group of 38 friends to run in NYC in honor of Bruce's daughter, Georgia who had suffered from leukemia.   That first team raised $322,000.    Many, many millions have been raised in the intervening 21 years.
I'd like to end each post with a thought on something that I am thankful for today:    seeing Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell on our route to Dibruno Bros.
Have a beautiful weekend with your family and friends!
