Transitions

Definition:  the process of changing from one state or condition to another.  In the case of Iron Girl we will start with the swim,  then bike, and finish with the run.

On Sunday at our Group Training Session,  we practiced setting up our transition space.   This picture isn't mine but illustrates what you have to do with little space.   Each of us set up our space and Gabi critiqued it and gave good tips.     David also advised to have a bucket or dishpan with water to wash the feet if they are sandy from running out of the water into the transition space.  Who wants small rocks and grains digging into the feet?  He said one can turn the bucket over to sit on it to put on bike and running shoes.   I wonder who dreamed that up?  There appears to be somewhat of an art to this and I am at the crayola, round tip scissors, and construction paper stage.

The bikes will be up on a rack very close to one another.   If you take the time to watch the video I've included you can really get the feel for this.   I already see I am disadvantaged with bike shoes that lace up :-( and Gabi looked at them askance.  Perhaps I need those cute bungie laces for my bike and running shoes.    Here you see Jed had his bike shoes on his transition towel.  David clipped them onto the bike and he will step into them on the run.  Yikes.  That sounds too advanced for me.

We practiced running to our bikes and getting our stuff on and going out.  There are rules too about the transition that can be dis-qualifying if not followed, like helmet must be on before existing the transition area.   We also talked about nutrition for event day but I'll save that for later.

If you don't have anything to do (unlikely) and are curious (maybe),  here is a good video that shows what the transition looks like.
